Surrender

They said it would be impossible for them to ever regain their old bodies and that it was better off that they didn't try. After all, to regain them would mean committing the same crime that got them in the situation in the first place. Of course, that didn't really stop them.
And so they set off on their quest, a feat that would probably take them a lifetime, already determined to do what alchemists with more experience than they, said was an unachievable venture. The Philosopher's Stone doesn't exist in reality, one had told them. It was no more than a legend. "Why do you look so hard for something seemingly unattainable?" Winly had asked them at one point, while Alphonse was out of earshot and inside the house talking with her grandmother.
Edward just gave her a painful, bittersweet smile. "Because I'm the responsible one."
After that, Alphonse came back out. "Ready to go brother?"
"Aa, whenever you are." He gave Alphonse a grin.
And so they went to their next destination, searching for any clues or information on the elusive stone. They contined their search from city to city, town to town, never stopping, never relenting. After all, the impossible is more attainable than one might believe.
