Inattention

a Hikaru no Go ficChallenge Words: consoling, wind, friend
It was almost that time of year again. The weather was mild and just starting to turn warmer though a cool breeze blew in through the diaphonous curtains his mother insisted on giving him before he left home. Hikaru stared over his friend's shoulder, green eyes watching the fish-shaped flags floating cheerfully in the wind.
Pa-chi.
He had to make travel arrangements again. Thankfully he didn't have any appointments scheduled for tomorrow. Sai would scold him for losing track of the days. Life wasn't all about go despite it occupying the better part of his time. Hikaru tried to remember the last time he read a manga though he was a bit older than the usual fans.
"Shindo?" Slightly questioning voice.
Maybe he should go and pick up Shounen Jump the next time he went to the station. Easiest way to figure out which series he should follow.
"Shindo." Getting annoyed.
What was the last manga he followed anyway? He bought Go Weekly more often than anything else (besides ramen) nowdays.
"Hikaru!"
He jumped, fingers rattling the stones in the go-ke. Hikaru immediately descended and crash landed from his musings to look into a pair of angrily glaring eyes. "Huh?"
"It's been your turn for the past 10 minutes," Akira muttered. He propped his chin up with a hand. "And if I didn't know that you're unusually strange around May 5th, I'd be more annoyed."
"What's that supposed to mean?!" Hikaru growled, though there was a faintly whining tone in his voice.
Akira reached across the board and gently patted his hand in a consoling manner. "Don't worry, most people already know you're strange."
Hikaru pounced. Black and white stones went flying but that was okay, they could recreate the game later. Right now, he had to teach his rival a lesson.
Laughter began to fill the room as nimble fingers danced along sensitive sides. Elsewhere, a long haired ghost smiled affectionately at them.
